Ok and before I leave again.
Dear pissed-off DCU fan in the Dynamo tag,
Yes. You are 100% correct. You’re so flawlessly correct that I almost had a heart attack- you found us out! Our first game in our new stadium is, in its entirety, completely about shoving it in your faces. In fact, when we first signed the deal to move the team to Houston, we literally thought to ourselves, “You know, I can’t wait until we get to that opening day, seven seasons down the road, and rub that crisp, sharp, new-paint smell in the faces of D.C. United.” Last week, we even figured, hey- let’s throw in a pre-prize! Where’s Danny!? He’ll love the East Coast! All for you. To rub it in as much as possible. I am even personally heading up the English lessons that teaching the fanbase to sing “Our House” will require.
Because this cannot be about us, for once. Nothing can be ours, really. Not our own captain or new stadium or team, for that matter. We’re still just old SJ, right? Our Cups still haven’t convinced the rest of the league, so we finally put some metal in the ground.
But one day, I’m sure within a few years, whatever becomes of you will just be old DC. And I can’t wait to stand in your new stadium, as your fans chant “Our House”, and rub it in your face that you’re no longer the End All. There are others here. And believe it or not, we’re better.
